Last-minute Cancellation of final MD, MS examinations: MAMC, RML, LHMC PG Medicos cry foul

Delhi: The Delhi PG medical examinations have now taken a u-turn with a last-minute cancellation just with 12 hours left before its commencement. Enraged and confused at this sudden move, the postgraduate medical students have approached the vice-chancellor of Delhi University and the Controller of Examination of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University with their demands.

 The post-graduation examination which was supposed to take place on June 16 got cancelled and only 12 hours before the commencement of the examination the students were informed that the exam has been postponed without any proper time table.

At a time like this when the doctors are providing services by working day and night to handle the COVID-19 crisis, this move has only increased their stress. The Resident Doctor Association (RDA) of three medical institutions have issued press releases regarding the issue and requested the authority to take necessary steps to alleviate their confusion and tension. Meanwhile, RDA from Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College has also approached the Vice-Chancellor with their demands while Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) submitted its letter to the Controller of Examination at GGSIPU. FORDA has further moved the DU Vice-Chancellor showing solidarity with the concerned medicos.

The President of Federation of resident doctors Association (FORDA) India, Dr Shivaji Dev Barman tweeted and informed that they have submitted a letter to the Honorable vice-chancellor of Delhi University.  "The final year PGs have been preparing rigorously since the date-sheets were declared. However, merely 12 hours before the commencement of the exam, it was declared that the exam has been postponed by "two-three weeks" with no clear timeline. This has led to utter confusion and despair among the students about their future. This kind of mental harassment of exam going students was totally unexpected," stated the letter.


MAMC students mentioned in their letter that with no fixed date for the final examination. The medicos alleged that they are in a state of confusion which shows the lack of coordination at the Faculty of Medical Sciences and their mismanagement of the situation.

They also added "when the preparation is complete, admit card has been distributed", the uncertainty of exams only increased their perils. MAMC  demanded that "the final exam should occur as early as possible within a maximum of one week of postponement and assurance from your office for no further change in date".

Medicos at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital also described the grievances of the PG doctors due to this rampant decision of the authority

All the doctors of RDAs and FORDA together voiced their demands regarding the examination. They stated that in a situation of COVID 19 when by working hard doctors have already proven their competence and hence demand the following:

1. The authority should consider internal assessment as a one-time option for declaration of results.

2. As an alternative, they can conduct single day exams if it is mandatory to conduct exams as per MCI.

Many of the doctors also tweeted and revealed their state of tension regarding the exams, as uncertainty looms large over the commencement of PG medical examinations.
