Gujarat HC notice to NTA, BJ Medical College over alleged tampering with NEET 2020 answer sheet

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has recently issued notices to the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD), National Testing Agency, and Dean of B J Medical College based on a petition moved by an MBBS aspirant alleging tampering of his National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) answer-sheet.

The petitioner, hailing from Bhavnagar, Mahendrasinh Gohil on behalf of his son, Jaiveersinh, approached the court alleging that the NEET-UG Exam 2020 was a scam. Thorugh his advocate Hitesh Acharya, the petitioner alleged that his answer-sheet was tampered with.

The plea stated, "Out of 180 questions, the petitioner had attended 178 and left two unattended. Of these, four questions were incorrect. Therefore, he expected to procure 692 out of 720 marks. The signature and writing of the student in the answer-sheet have been overwritten. Also, the handwriting on the student's admit card and question paper does not match the one on the answer sheet."

The plea also stated that the candidate, Jaiveersinh's name, and signature on the answer-sheet were overwritten, supporting his claim of manipulation of marks.

The petition further raised the issue of discrepancy in the unattended questions.

It claimed, "The petitioner has left only question numbers 55 and 108 unanswered. However, in the answer-sheet he received, there were 8 unanswered questions. While numbers 55 and 108 had been answered. This proves that there is a scam. The answer-sheet has been tampered with. The handwriting and signature have been overwritten, and does not tally with that of the student's."

Jaiveersinh, as quoted by Ahmedabad Mirror, stated that the answer-sheet received by him has been manipulated as his scored marks should be 672 instead the received marks are 354 out of a total of 720 marks.

The petition further claimed that the system is defective, and there are several irregularities in the procedure, adding that this puts the career of not only the petitioner but several students in jeopardy.
