Karnal: Govt Medical College Mass Terminate 100 Contractual Staff
Karnal: Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) has terminated the services of around 100 contractual staff nurses, counselors, and other employees who were appointed during the pandemic, despite the hospital already reeling under a staff shortage.
The contractual employees were appointed during the pandemic to overcome the shortage of staff, reports the Tribune India.

The employees, who were removed from their services, were reportedly angry over the decision and are protesting outside the office of the director of the college. They said that they were given only a day's notice before they were let go.
A contractual staff told Tribune India, "I was appointed during the first wave. We were called back to duty before the end of the quarantine period, but we never objected."

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a similar story where around 95 nurses, recruited during the COVID-19 pandemic eleven months ago at the Lok Nayak Hospital to increase the medical staff in order to manage the growing cases, were reported to have been arbitrarily terminated through a Whatsapp message. The WhatsApp message read, "On May 14, 2021, a Covid facility was started at Ramlila Maidan. All the staff posted worked for hand in hand to run this facility smoothly. Now as Covid has come to an end and this facility is being shut down, it's time to say goodbye. All the nurses posted at the Ramlila ground or in vaccination (section) or in Lok Nayak Hospital... are directed not to continue with their duties."
