JK Medical Council signs MoU with UNESCO Bioethics Chair

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asia Pacific Division and the Department of Education, International Chair in Bioethics (UNESCO Chair) to collaborate on joint initiatives in medical ethics and bioethics education.

The MoU aims to foster collaboration in bioethics and medical ethics training across medical institutions in the region.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint initiatives, including curriculum development, research, faculty development, and the integration of ethical training into undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs.

A statement by JKMC said the MoU also outlines the use of innovative teaching and assessment methods, encouraging academic exchange, and the organization of joint conferences, seminars, and workshops, news agency UNI reported.

Further, JK Medical Council, in collaboration with the global network for medical, health professions and bioethics education, Melbourne, Australia conducted one-day J&K Medical Council - Medical Faculty Training program in Ethics and Medical Education at Government Medical College, Srinagar today.

The workshop was inaugurated by JKMC President Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, who provided an overview of the objectives of the training. Prof. Sandeep Dogra, Registrar JKMC, concluded the session with a vote of thanks.

The event featured a panel of eminent bioethics educators and medical professionals from across India and abroad.

The workshop featured four focused sessions covering a wide range of topics, including the 3T Paradigm in Bioethics Education – mastering the approach to teach, train, and transfer bioethics in health professions; augmenting learning with active learning strategies to enhance engagement and understanding; multimodal assessment strategies for bioethics in health professions education; and the ethical frontiers of artificial intelligence in clinical training and research.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Prof (Dr) PK Kalsotra, Head of the department of ENT at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, has been appointed as the new Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur. He will continue his current responsibilities while taking on his new role.
