ECHO India collaborates with JK Medical Council to boost Healthcare Capacity
Srinagar: In a move to enhance the healthcare capacity-building in Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) has entered into a partnership with ECHO India, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare education through innovative training models. This collaboration aims to strengthen Continuing Medical Education (CME) and skill development among medical practitioners across the region.
The partnership focuses on leveraging ECHO India’s innovative case-based learning model and expert mentorship to enhance capacity and address healthcare access and knowledge gaps in Jammu and Kashmir, ultimately improving healthcare delivery for communities throughout the region. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this partnership was signed by Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, President of JKMC, and Dr. Sandeep Bhalla, Vice President of Projects at ECHO India, with key officials from both organizations in attendance.

According to a UNI news report, Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan expressed his optimism about the initiative, stating, “This partnership bridges healthcare access and knowledge gaps in Jammu and Kashmir, empowering our healthcare providers with essential tools and mentorship,”
The collaboration will begin in January 2025 and will include the issuance of five-year registration certificates by JKMC, along with 30 CME credit hours, supported by this partnership.
Dr Bhalla emphasized ECHO India’s dedication to the initiative, highlighting that the partnership reinforces their mission to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir and ensure equitable access to quality care.

In addition to strengthening overall medical education, the partnership will focus on skill development in critical healthcare areas that are of particular importance to the region. These areas include tuberculosis (TB), oncology, tribal health, and geriatric care, where there is often a lack of specialized knowledge and resources.
