Anantnag: The Maternity and child care hospital of Anantnag was recently ransacked by the angry attendants of a patient who claimed that the patient passed away due to the alleged medical negligence of the hospital authority. The attendants had also reportedly thrashed the doctors and a paramedic during the violent attack.

The patient was a 26-year-old pregnant woman who delivered a baby at the hospital on Monday afternoon. She was normal till Tuesday early morning and after that, she started having complications and eventually passed away. The attendant of the patients alleged that the hospital did not pay any heed to the patient's declining condition. They resorted to violence and vandalized the hospital while manhandling many of the health workers.

According to a Greater Kashmir, the deceased was a resident of South Kashmir Anantnag district and she was admitted to the Maternity and child care hospital on 25th July. The next day she delivered a baby, but her situation worsened and she needed ventilation which was not available in the hospital. Hence the doctors decided to take her to Srinagar hospital. When she was taken on a stretcher, the attendants created a ruckus stopping them from shifting the patient and she eventually passed away.
The family members then alleged that she was left unattended and died due to the medical negligence of the hospital.
Principal Government Medical College Anantnag Dr. Showkat Jeelani informed Kashmir Observer that a committee has been set up to investigate the validity of the claims of the patient's family and ensured that there will be a thorough investigation regarding the incident. He added that as far his knowledge goes "She had delivered a baby on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday morning, her oxygen saturation dropped. The doctors decided to shift her to Srinagar for ventilator support but was not allowed by her family members".
After the patient died, the family members alleging negligence on part of the hospital authority, broke the window panes of the hospital and showered choicest invectives on the doctors. Many health workers were injured due to the violence of family members. The angry attendants also allegedly thrashed a doctor and a paramedic, reports Greater Kashmir. The destruction created by family members of the patient prompted the police to intervene and to take the necessary steps in order to handle the prevailing situation and the report was also filed accordingly. The family demanded strict action against the hospital staff whom they alleged to be responsible for the death.
However, the medical superintendent of the hospital doctor M the Rabi denied allegations of the attendants and told Kashmir Observer that "She went unwell on Tuesday morning and we wanted her to shift to Srinagar for ventilator support. The attendants did not allow that and instead vandalized the hospital and beat up doctors and other staff members. During this time, she passed away." He criticized the activity of the attendants and stated that many of the doctors and health workers have received injuries and stitches due to the violence against the hospital.
