Kashmiri MBBS student found dead in Bangladesh, External Affairs Minister urged to intervene
Srinagar: In an unfortunate incident, a Kashmiri MBBS student studying in Bangladesh was found dead near a water body, days after his family lost contact with him.
The deceased was a resident of Bunpora, Dangarpora, in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. He was in the final semester of his MBBS course at Eastern Medical College in Cumilla, Bangladesh.
Expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), has written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, seeking urgent intervention to facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains of the student.
According to his family, as reported by Kashmir Life, the student travelled to Bangladesh about 15 days ago with his mother as he was scheduled to appear for his first final-semester examination.
However, the family lost contact with him two days ago. They were subsequently informed that he had gone missing. On Tuesday evening, the family received the tragic news that the student had been found dead near a water body.
According to reports, the student went missing on Monday night after leaving the college campus. His body was recovered from a pond in Monipur village, around 500 yards from the college, on Wednesday morning.
After this, the family appealed to the Government of India to intervene, coordinate with the authorities in Bangladesh, and ensure that Adnan’s mortal remains are brought back home at the earliest.
Police recovered the body after receiving information from local residents and shifted it to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death is yet to be established and will be determined through the autopsy and investigation.
Following the incident, AIMSA's Jammu and Kashmir State President, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, wrote to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on November 4, seeking urgent intervention to facilitate the repatriation of Adnan's mortal remains.
In its letter, the association stated that the MBBS student had lost his life in a drowning incident and highlighted the difficult situation faced by his mother, who is currently stranded in Bangladesh following his death.
AIMSA has urged the Indian Embassy in Dhaka to extend immediate humanitarian assistance to the grieving mother, complete the necessary formalities, and ensure the earliest possible transportation of Adnan’s mortal remains to India.
The association has also appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and the concerned authorities to intervene and provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
