UP's medical college MBBS student death: Family protests, demands probe after postmortem reveals multiple fractures

Pratapgarh: The family of an MBBS student at Dr. Sone Lal Patel Autonomous State Medical College in Pratapgarh who was found dead on the hostel lawn on the campus has demanded a fair investigation into his death after the postmortem report revealed fractures in three ribs and the bones in his lower back.
Indicating the involvement of foul play in his death, the family refused to take custody of the body, protested, and demanded a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) after the postmortem, conducted around 35 hours later, revealed the injuries.
Medical Dialogues had reported that a 24-year-old MBBS student of the 2024 batch at Dr Sone Lal Patel Medical College was found dead on the hostel lawn on the college campus. According to other students, the student was in his first year and failed examinations twice. No suicide note was recovered by the police.

Following this, the postmortem report of the student revealed fractures in three ribs and the bones in his lower back. Based on the findings, the family continued its protest at the postmortem house until Monday night.
After the family called off the protest, City Circle Officer Ashok Mishra gave assurance to them that action would be taken, and the police registered a case against unidentified persons. Based on this, the family took the body to Ballia around 40 hours after the initial protest over the handover of the body began, as per Dainik Bhaskar.
Meanwhile, the deceased's brother rejected the possibility of an accidental death and alleged that his brother had been murdered as part of a conspiracy. He claimed that the medical college's CCTV cameras were not functioning and said that injury marks were visible on his neck and body.
Subsequently, the family has demanded that the police examine the circumstances surrounding the death and investigate all aspects of the case. The allegations have not yet been established, and the cause of death will need to be determined through the investigation.
Along with this, the student's father further alleged that he was facing casteist and derogatory caste-related remarks on the medical college campus.
He demanded that the police register a case over the alleged remarks and take action against those responsible, and called for an impartial investigation into both the student's death and the allegations concerning the college premises.
