Govt doctor shares satirical video on PM Modi on WhatsApp, faces flak
Dhanbad: A Government doctor posted at the district hospital who shared a satirical video on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his birthday, in a WhatsApp group has been criticized by local BJP leaders of Dhanbad district, who termed the doctor's action as "objectionable" and sought a probe into the issue.
The issue was mainly raised by local BJP MLA, Raj Sinha, who alleged that the shared video contained objectionable comments about the Prime Minister, with other leaders also joining and demanding a probe into the incident.
As per a recent media report in Jharkhand Telegraph, the video shared by the doctor was of a Twitter post of Rajeev Dhyani, a satirist and political activist who lives in London, having over 20.7 K followers. The video was originally shared on Twitter on September 12, where Dhyani plays on the Hindi word, "motiaband (cataract)".
The video is named, "ModiyabandkiBimari", with the word 'motiyaband'(meaning cataract ) tuned to 'modiyaband', taking a dig at the blurred vision of Modi supporters in India, who apparently cannot see the events unfolding in their own country and rather remains concerned with issues of Afghanistan and Syria. He added that as a result, they continued to stay far from the light of knowledge.
The video was shared by the doctor in a doctors' group of his former working place, Sahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College, Dhanbad.

Taking note of the same, the district administration has asked the civil surgeon, Dr. Shyam Kishore Kant to look into the incident. The latter told the daily that they are waiting for an explanation from the doctor since he has gone on a two days leave. He further mentioned that the doctor apologized to the members of the WhatsApp Group and the local BJP MLA, Raj Sinha.
Commenting on the actions of the BJP leaders, Shiv Balak Paswan, Secretary of Jharia Coalfield BachaoSamiti told the daily, "It is an attempt to distract the people's attention from core issues... Why didn't the MP and MLA come to Jharia when the people were suffering due to an acute drinking water crisis for over a week ahead of Vishwarkarma Puja?"
"Will they ask for a similar probe on similar satirical comments made by many others against former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and even Jawaharlal Nehru?', stated BijayJha, a politician turned social activist and former chairman of Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority.
While speaking to the media, Dhanbad MP P.N Singh told Jharkhand Telegraph, "When the state government is itself behaving irresponsibily, then what can we expect from its officers. I will also raise the issue during the upcoming District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting."
Meanwhile, the doctor has gone on a two days leave and has not responded to the questions of media.
