Odisha: Govt hospital security guard administers injection to patient, video goes viral
Bhubaneswar: Raising question over implementation of Odisha government's strict guidelines at hospitals, a video went viral showing a security guard posted at a government-run hospital in Angul district administering an injection to a patient.
The incident which took place on Tuesday at the District Headquarters Hospital of Angul drew sharp criticism after its video went viral on various social media platforms. A relative of another patient in the hospital had recorded the incident and uploaded it online.
In the video, the security guard can be seen administering an injection to a patient in pain despite the presence of doctors, paramedic staff at the government hospital.
As per various media accounts, the patient had suffered a minor accident and went to the hospital for a Tetanus shot.
On being questioned about why no doctor, nurse, or paramedical staff had administered the injection to the patient, Assistant Chief Medical Superintendent Manas Ranjan Biswal told India Today, "We have initiated an inquiry into it and action will be taken after a probe. We will also go into details on who was in charge at the time of the incident."
Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare department Pradeepta Kumar Mohapatra had directed all government hospitals in the state to avoid engaging any non-healthcare personnel in assisting doctors or paramedics during treatment of patients, reports OdishaTv.
