Dr H Prabhakar named National Vice President of Indian College of Cardiology
Mangaluru: Distinguished interventional cardiologist Dr H. Prabhakar has been elected National Vice President of the Indian College of Cardiology at its National Meeting held in Kochi on September 12, 2026. The 33rd National Conference of the Indian College of Cardiology (ICCCON 2026) took place at the Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty in Kochi, Kerala.
Dr Prabhakar has made significant contributions to establishing and growing interventional cardiology in Coastal Karnataka, Malnad Karnataka, and North Kerala. He was associated with Father Muller Medical College Hospital and was among the early interventional cardiologists in the region to introduce and perform advanced cardiac procedures, including coronary angioplasty, device closure of congenital heart defects, valvuloplasty, and other complex interventional interventions.
For the past 25 years, Dr Prabhakar has led the Department of Cardiology at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, as Chief Interventional Cardiologist. Over the course of his career, he has performed and participated in thousands of cardiac procedures in the region. His clinical skill and dedication have played a key role in making advanced cardiac treatment more accessible to patients throughout Karnataka, reports Mangalorean.
Dr. Prabhakar has received the prestigious State Aryabhata Award and the State Health Leadership Award. He is also credited with hosting an international cardiology conference in Mangaluru, an initiative that brought the city recognition on the national and global cardiology circuit. He has made significant contributions to academic growth in the field and has been pivotal in organising several national and state-level cardiology conferences and academic events in Mangaluru.
His leadership extends beyond his clinical work. He has served as Vice-President of the Karnataka Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India and as President of the Mangaluru Chapter of the Association of Physicians of India. He has also held various key positions in the Indian College of Cardiology over the past 15 years. He will serve a one-year term.
