Dr M K Ramesh appointed new VC of RGUHS

Bengaluru: The President of the Post Graduate Medical Education Board, National Medical Commission Dr M.K. Ramesh has recently been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).
Karnataka Governor's Secretariat on Tuesday issued notification regarding the appointments of Vice-Chancellors for Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and Bengaluru North University, Kolar.
Dr Ramesh in the past has served the University as Registrar (Evaluation). Previously, Dr. S. Sacchidanand served as the VC of the institute and he retired on 14 June. Thereafter, Dr Jayakara S.M., Principal of AECS Maruthi College of Dental Sciences was appointed to act as the Vice-Chancellor of the Institute from 15.06.2021.
In a recent notification signed by Karnataka Governor, authorities stated, " The search committee constituted by the state government under the provision of selection 12(3) of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act 1994 has submitted the panel to the state government and the same was forwarded to the chancellor. The recommendations of the search committee have been considered after which the selection was made."
" I, Thaawrard Chand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of RGUHS, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 12 (2) of RGUHS Act 1994 hereby appoint Dr M.K Ramesh, President of the Post Graduate Medical Education Board as the V.C of RGUHS for a period of three years with effect from the day of assumption of office or till he attains 65 years whichever is earlier", added the notice.
Dr. M.K Ramesh serves as the Head of Surgery, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (PG medical education board). He was appointed as the President of the Post Graduate Medical Education Board, National Medical Commission last year.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the appointment of Dr Jayakara, the Principal of a private dental college as an interim Vice Chancellor of (VC) of prestigious Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) had flabbergasted the Medical Education Minister, K Sudhakar himself, who stated that only a person with eminence, excellent reputation and track record should be appointed VC.
