Kollam: Authorities have decided to implement an Rs 88.21- crore project for the renovation and comprehensive development of ESIC Model Hospital, Asramam. A high-level meeting convened by ESIC Director General Rajendra Kumar facilitated the decision.

As part of the new project, a number of facilities will be established at the hospital, including a solar system to ensure hot water, a waste treatment plant, CCTV surveillance, a RO plant for clean drinking water, a softener plant to remove harmful iron, calcium, and magnesium from drinking water, an incinerator, a modular operating room, illuminated boards, a Theatre Sterile Surgical Unit (TSSU), and a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).

Commenting on the project, MP N.K.Premachandran told The Hindu, " Earlier, a ₹26-crore project was being considered to construct more floors in the existing building. But the new ₹88.21- crore project includes renovation of the existing building, construction of more floors, and structural strengthening."

One of the major setbacks that the institute is now facing is parking problems and in order to solve it a multilevel parking complex will be constructed. The Director General has established a special committee to guarantee the project's prompt execution. The facility, which is the only super-specialty hospital managed by the Workers' State Insurance Corporation in the State, is all set to receive a significant upgrade with new, enhanced infrastructure and cutting-edge technology, reports the daily.
