Kerala HC slams Crime Branch over Karakonam medical college scam investigation
The HC asked the crime branch not to protect the accused and submit the probe progress report within 10 days. The Court made this observation while hearing the bail applications of the accused.
Kochi - Kerala High Court on Friday came down heavily on the state Crime Branch in connection with Karakonam medical college scam.
Justice P V Kunhikrishnan observed that the probe team did not investigate on the involvement of Director Bennett Abraham of Dr Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College in Karakoram and CSI Moderator Bishop A Dharmaraj Rasalam in connection with the allegations that they cheated several people and collected huge sums by offering admission at the medical college for MBBS and MD seats.
The HC asked the crime branch not to protect the accused and submit the probe progress report within 10 days. The Court made this observation while hearing the bail applications of the accused.
The Court further observed that though a case was registered, the probe was not fruitful.
Parents of some students had approached the Court demanding a CBI probe following which a crime branch probe was ordered.
The accused, who are the college authorities, took huge amounts from people promising admissions and they have cheated. When the authorities failed to give admissions, the petitioners demanded the money back which was not returned.
Huge amounts, even above Rs 60 lakh, were found to have been collected in a probe conducted by the Admission and Supervisory Committee for Medical Education in Kerala.
