Kerala: Othopedicians, Surgeon who operated on suspected Covid-19 positive patient, asked to go on leave

Thiruvananthapuram: The state of Kerala, seems to be moving to healthcare manpower calamity as on one hand 30 doctors of SCTIMST who came in contact with coronavirus positive doctors have been moved to self-isolation, similar directives have been issued for doctors Thiruvananthapuram Medical College who performed surgery on a suspected COVID-19 patient.

As per media reports, the case concerns a patient who had recently returned from abroad and was under home quarantine due to the symptoms of COVID-19. He violated the directive, left his home and met with the accident at Punalur on Sunday.

Following the road accident, he was rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital where he was subjected to surgery. He was taken to ortho and surgical units of the emergency section.

The doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital who had come in contact with the person were then asked to go on leave on Monday

As per health ministry records, there are now a total of 114 confirmed cases in India as of March 16th, 2020 including 13 cured and 2 reported deaths. Contact tracing activity of these positive cases has led to identification of more than 5,200 contacts, who are kept under surveillance.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has urged people to share technology-driven solutions for COVID-19 on MyGovIndia, the citizen engagement platform of the Government of India.

In a tweet the Prime Minister said, "Harnessing innovation for a healthier planet. A lot of people have been sharing technology-driven solutions for COVID-19. I would urge them to share them on @mygovindia. These efforts can help many." 

he Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of the health staff in combating the spread of COVID-19. "Our doctors, nurses, healthcare workers are putting great efforts. They are out there, helping people. We will always cherish their contribution. #IndiaFightsCorona," he said in one of his tweets.

"Many people are highlighting different aspects of how India is combating Covid-19. This is boosting the morale of all those doctors, nurses, municipal workers, airport staff and all other remarkable people at the forefront of fighting Covid-19. #IndiaFightsCorona," he tweeted.
