Kozhikode Medical College Pediatrics Professor, Dr TP Ashraf selected as recipient for IAP fellowship

Kozhikode: Dr TP Ashraf, the professor of pediatrics at Kozhikode Medical College, has recently been selected as the recipient of the prestigious fellowship of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) for 2020.
The doctor has also served as the district president of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. The award will be presented to him at the National conference of pediatricians which is going to take place in Mumbai in February 2021.
He has been selected for the award due to his contribution as the Executive Director of the social security mission.
During his tenure as the Executive Director, he along with some other members started a hearing screening program in Kerala. They also contributed in introducing the Rubella vaccine in Kerala. Other than that he has also served as the superintendent of the institute of maternity and child health.
He has an exceptional academic career and also served as the Project Director of the state initiative on disabilities. He has contributed to several projects in order to improve healthcare for the disabled. He has also been connected with several social works.
Speaking to Medical dialogues, Dr. Ashraf stated that he also took initiative to introduce several economic assistance programs for the disabled.
He is also the pioneer of the much appreciated Shruti tangram project. The project is dedicated to provide free cochlear implants for children especially those who are suffering from several kinds of hearing disabilities.
Dr. Ashraf is currently serving as an officer in the Early intervention center of Kozhikode Medical College. He is also the senior consultant of the Community Disability Management Program implemented by the Department of Psychology, University of Kozhikode. IAP Secretary Dr. Basavraj informed that this fellowship is conferred to doctors who made outstanding contributions in several fields. An esteemed panel of selectors considers the application of the candidates and prepares the list of recipients.
