Kochi: The notification issued by the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) mandating one-year senior residency after successful completion of PG medical course in a government medical college has recently been stayed by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) for one month.

This comes in response to a petition filed by Dr Varghese Jomy, Dr Sivapriya N, and two other doctors, family medicine specialists serving in several private and Government hospitals in Kerala that challenged the validity of a recruitment notification by KPSC last year.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that KPSC had released Vacancies for Assistant Professor posts on Direct Recruitment Basis in Medical Education Service. The selection was to be done on the basis of a written exam and interview.

The Vacancies in question (total number of 14) were in the department of - Family Medicine, Dermatology, and Bio-Chemistry. KPSC had mentioned the last date of application as 20th January 2021. There were 22 vacancies in the Family Medicine department.

However, as per the latest media report by the New Indian Express, the notification had insisted on a one-year senior residency after successfully completing the Post Graduation (PG) medical course in a government medical college.

The daily informs that several specialists belonging to the field of Family Medicine challenged the notification and especially the insistence on the mandatory one-year senior residency for being eligible for writing the exam.
