14 Medical Colleges approved for MP districts, 10 Operational: MoS Health informs Lok Sabha
Madhya Pradesh- Union Minister of State for Health Smt. Anupriya Patel recently informed the Lok Sabha that the Madhya Pradesh government has approved 14 new medical colleges in various districts of the state, out of which 10 have become operational.
Besides this, the minister also informed that financial assistance has also been provided to the state to increase MBBS and PG seats in 16 medical colleges.
Smt. Patel was responding to questions posed by Shri Darshan Singh Chaudhary, Member of Parliament, who wanted to know whether the Government proposes to set up medical colleges in Narmadapuram and Narsinghpur districts of Madhya Pradesh.
He also seeks to know whether any steps have been taken by the Government to develop health infrastructure to provide quality healthcare facilities in the rural areas of Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur and Raisen districts of Madhya Pradesh.
In response to these questions, MoS Health informed that under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), 14 medical colleges have been approved in various districts of Madhya Pradesh, out of which 10 are functional. Ministry of Health & Family Welfare administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for the ‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ with preference to underserved areas and aspirational districts, where there is no existing Government or private medical college.
These 14 medical colleges were approved for Datia, Khandwa, Ratlam, Shahdol, Vidisha, Chindwara & Shivpuri in Phase-I, Satna in Phase-II & Rajgarh, Mandla, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Sheopur & Singrauli in Phase-III districts of MP.
Moreover, under the CSS for upgradation of existing State Government/ Central Government Medical Colleges for increasing MBBS (UG) seats and PG seats, financial support has also been provided to the State of Madhya Pradesh for increase of 850 MBBS seats in 11 Medical Colleges at a total approved cost of Rs. 1020 Crore and 849 PG seats in 06 Medical Colleges at a total approved cost of Rs. 702.21 Crore.
The fund-sharing mechanism between the Centre and State Governments is in the ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern and Special Category States, and 60:40 for others, the MoS informed.
