AIIMS Bhopal Dr Abhinav Singh honoured with Dental Public Health Academic Award
Bhopal: Dr Abhinav Singh of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal has been honoured with the Dental Public Health Academic Award for the year 2023. Dr Singh is working as an Additional Professor in the Department of Dentistry.
The National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), India, presented the award in appreciation for the projects and research done during the last few years. His article was published in the Journal of American Dental Association, an official journal of the American Dental Association and it was titled "Loneliness and impairment as predictors for oral illnesses among 2 groups of older individuals in Central India."
In his paper, he stated that loneliness and disability were found to be significantly associated with oral health. The study results found poor oral health, low use of oral health care, and a high unmet need for dental prosthetics in the 2 groups of older adults. Practising dentists need to understand the significance of loneliness and social isolation on oral health. Interventions to reduce isolation and disability can be beneficial in improving the oral health of older adults.
