2nd year MBBS student drowns in Pavana Dam

Pune: In a tragic incident, a second-year MBBS student of Balasaheb Vikhe Patil Medical College, Loni Pravara drowned at Pavana dam, near Thakursai village on Friday.

The victim, hailing from Mumbai, has been identified as a 20-year-old student pursuing studies at a medical college in Ahmednagar's Loni area. 

The unfortunate incident unfolded as four students, part of a Republic Day picnic organized by the medical college under the guidance of a professor, entered the waters of Pavana Dam. While some students enjoyed the serene surroundings on the banks, tragedy struck as two students, despite possessing swimming skills, found themselves drowning. Though one of the medicos, a resident of Nagpur has been saved by the locals, unfortunately, his friend could not be saved. 
Inspector Kishor Dhumal of the Lonavla (rural) police recounted the sequence of events, mentioning that the incident took place when four of the students got into the water. After a while, two students came out of the water safe but two of the students started struggling. The alarm was raised by fellow students who witnessed the distressing situation. Prompt efforts by residents of the area led to the successful rescue of one of the drowning students, a classmate from Nagpur, reports

However, the young victim, despite rescue attempts, succumbed to the unfortunate incident. Authorities are conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, while the medical college community mourns the loss of their fellow student.
