7 MBBS students killed in road accident, PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex gratia each

The incident occurred around 1.30 AM near Selsura village in Wardha district, 77 km away from Nagpur, in east Maharashtra.

The medical students had finished their exams and were returning in a car from a birthday party when the mishap took place. The SUV was heading to Wardha from Deoli. As per the police, the car fell nearly 40 feet off a bridge when the medico driving the vehicle lost control over the wheels.

As per a recent media report in Times of India, Chauhan was driving the car when he had lost control over the vehicle due to alleged over speeding.

SP Prashant Holkar told TOI "The vehicle had fallen through the bridge railing after impacting it. The incident had taken place between two bridges. We have already conducted the inquest. The post-mortem would be conducted in presence of senior experts".

The police found six medical student bodies on the riverbed and inside the car they found Chauhan's body stuck which took almost two hours to retrieve the body, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the students and announced Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those that perished in the accident from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
