Andheri resident duped of Rs 10.5 lakh in promise of MBBS admission for Daughter in Rajiv Gandhi Medical College

Mumbai: A 46-year old resident of Andheri in Mumbai was cheated of Rs 10.5 lakhs by a fraudster on the pretext of providing an MBBS seat to his daughter at the Rajiv Gandhi Medical College in Andhra Pradesh.    

The complainant transferred the money to the bank account given by the fraudster, and the complainant realised that he was duped when he and his daughter reached the college on April 16.

Following that, the Bandra-Kurla Complex cyber police registered a first information report (FIR) against two unidentified persons for creating a fake website of the college and providing fake admission receipts on May 11. The said fraud website is presently booked. 

According to the cyber police, the fraudsters made the complainant send his daughter's education certificates on Whatsapp, which could have been misused. The person reportedly lost all the money he had saved for his daughter's education. 

The complainant started looking for other ways to secure an MBBS admission after his daughter could not clear the NEET exam. It was then that he received a message from a receiver called 'AM-INDUSB'. A cyber official said, "The victim immediately decided to take admission for his daughter after he got in touch with the person on receiving the SMS. The message read: MBBS direct admission in top medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh and the total course admission package will be Rs 40 lakh and also education loan will be available."

When the complainant got to know that only a few seats are left, he called the number which was received by a person called, Ajitesh Sharma. As per the TOI report, the complaint given by the person stated, "I got convinced after I checked the college site that was provided by the fraudster. I was asked to download the form and submit it along with the money online which had the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Medical Education approval. The entire fraud occurred between March 27 and April 16 and I was even issued with an admission accepted receipt."

The man got to know about the cheating when he and his daughter reached the college after a person called Niraj asked him to go there with all the certificates and the admission receipt. The official said, "He was stopped at the gate by a security guard. He then found the site was blocked too."
