After their inspection, the team will submit a report to the university to determine whether the hospital and the college are ready to admit students for undergraduate courses of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The team included three people; one from Nanded and two from Pune, and they inspected arrangements in all four departments, including Biochemistry, Physiology, Community medicine, and Anatomy. They also took note of the laboratories and library.
Dr Anjali Sabne, assistant medical officer, PMC, and in-charge of the project told
Hindustan Times that the college has all the required conditions in place. As far as faculty members are concerned, except for the positions of professor for medicine and surgery, the appointment of every other faculty member is already in process. The faculty of surgery and medicine are required only in the second year and so, in the first year, there will be no disruption in the courses.
"The letter of affiliation (LoA) ensures that the syllabus is approved by MUHS, Nashik. We have already started with the initial course of admissions and we hope that in a day or two, we will get the LoA. We have a capacity of 100 seats for admissions to MBBS and we have hostel facilities for 80 students even though the hostel has a capacity for 160 residents", he further added.
The Sanas school has been turned into a medical college, with the nearby Kamala Nehru hospital serving as the college's affiliated hospital. On different levels, male and female students have their own hostel amenities. The college was first proposed in 2017 and on October 16, 2021, the central government gave its clearance for the PMC-run Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College to begin from this academic year.
The college has secured its final approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) on March 11, 2022. The medical college is now located on the Sanas grounds, however, the general body has accepted a plan to construct a new hospital within the present Naidu infection control hospital grounds.
