Pune: A team of expert doctors from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik has paid a visit to the current premises of Atal Bihari medical college, the first medical college of Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC's). The team inspected all the arrangements and the infrastructure including the hostel, medical college, and the Kamala Nehru hospital that will serve as the attached hospital for the college.
After their inspection, the team will submit a report to the university to determine whether the hospital and the college are ready to admit students for undergraduate courses of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The team included three people; one from Nanded and two from Pune, and they inspected arrangements in all four departments, including Biochemistry, Physiology, Community medicine, and Anatomy. They also took note of the laboratories and library.
The Sanas school has been turned into a medical college, with the nearby Kamala Nehru hospital serving as the college's affiliated hospital. On different levels, male and female students have their own hostel amenities. The college was first proposed in 2017 and on October 16, 2021, the central government gave its clearance for the PMC-run Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College to begin from this academic year.
The college has secured its final approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) on March 11, 2022. The medical college is now located on the Sanas grounds, however, the general body has accepted a plan to construct a new hospital within the present Naidu infection control hospital grounds.
