The post of Dean remained vacant for some time after Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar suspended the previous Dean on orders of the chief minister. Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that during a surprise visit to the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital at Kalwa in Thane district to inaugurate a refurbished labour ward and the surgery section, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed displeasure about the poor working condition of the facility and the lack of facilities for doctors and decided to take stern action against it. Considering that the facility wasn't up to the mark and the doctors were suffering, Shinde suspended the Dean and the deputy dean of the hospital.
