Maha: Medical staff demand action, threaten to stop work over attack on duty doctor at COVID centre

Dr Sanjay Pingulkar, general secretary of the Thane Mahanagarpalika Vaidyakiya Adhikari Association called for immediate action including the arrest of the accused and also sought extra protection for the medical staff.

Thane:  Doctors and other medical staff at the Thane Municipal Corporation-run medical centres on Monday gave an ultimatum to immediately act on the complaint of the recent assault on a doctor on duty at the Covid centre, allegedly by an MNS activist, else face a serious stir including stoppage of work on Tuesday.

In a letter to the Thane city Mayor Naresh Mhaske, Dr Sanjay Pingulkar, general secretary of the Thane Mahanagarpalika Vaidyakiya Adhikari Association, has given this warning.

He said in the letter that one Dr Nigam at the Antigen Testing centre was attacked by Mahesh Kadam of MNS and expressed serious concern over the rise in such attacks on the medical staff of the TMC-run hospitals.

He called for immediate action including the arrest of the accused and also sought extra protection for the medical staff.

Following this, Mayor Mhaske has asked the city Commissioner to ensure extra protection and also installation of additional CCTV cameras at the medical centres.

He also instructed to take immediate action on the alleged MNS activist.
