Nashik: District guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal has issued direction to the public works department and the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) instructing them to finalize the land distribution for the proposed medical college under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences(MUHS).

The new medical college will be holding a capacity of 100 MBBS students and it will have a 430-bed hospital attached to it. It was expected to cost around Rs 627.62 crore for the college and the affiliated hospital. MUHS had already entered into an agreement with Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre where it would be sending the students admitted for postgraduate courses in its college to take lessons and do practicals till the time the construction is completed.

The MUHS has got 14 hectares in the Mhasrul area of the city for the medical college. Previously Medical Dialogues reported that the General Body (GB) of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved the proposal in June 2021. The medical college is going to be the first government medical college and hospital in the locality under the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). The right over the land was previously reserved for public amenities in the development plan of the civic body.
Bhujbal reviewed the construction work of the proposed medical college in MUHS campus, and told Times of India, "The process to identify the land to be handed over to the MUHS from NMC for the purpose of construction of the college should be finalized by the officials of state public works department and the NMC at the earliest."
Bhujbal also directed the PWD to start working on the design of the building for the proposed college. Only after the construction of the building is done, undergraduate and postgraduate courses shall be conducted. All the latest services and basic amenities including fire extinguishers, sprinklers, and greenery will be arranged in the new building by the PWD.
"The plan for the building should be completed in next eight days so that the same can be presented to the state government for the further process," Bhujbal said.
