Maha: NMC approves proposal to allot land for medical college hospital under MUHS

Nashik: Acting on the proposal of the civic administration regarding the allocation of land for the construction of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), the General Body (GB) of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has recently approved the proposal on Monday and decided to give 14 hectares of land located in the Mhasrul area of the city for the GMCH.

The medical college is going to be the first government medical college and hospital in the locality under the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

As per a recent media report in the Times of India, the City mayor Satish Kulkarni approved the proposal during the GB meeting. Previously the District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal during a meeting in February directed the civic administration to raise the proposal for the land acquisition. A similar direction was also given in a letter by the district collector Suraj Mandhare who also sought transfer of land for the proposed Government Medical College and Hospital.

The right over the land is reserved for public amenities in the development plan of the civic body. The conductors already extended their support to the proposal; however, considering that the land belongs to the civic body, they have requested the mayor to ensure the involvement of NMC especially in connection with issues like bed reservation.

While giving a nod to the proposal, the city Mayor Kulkarni has informed that a meeting with all the party group leaders will be organized soon to discuss the issue. The district guardian minister on Monday also held a meeting with the MUHS officials after the decision of NMC was announced. He stated that MUHS should immediately have an agreement with Nashik Civil Hospital so that they can use the existing infrastructure for the students of the Medical College and Hospital until the construction of the new hospital is completed, reports the daily.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a new medical college with a capacity of 100 students under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and a 430-bed hospital attached to it was approved by the cabinet in Nashik. It was expected to cost around Rs 627.62 crore for the college and the affiliated hospital. Considering the available medical facilities in Nashik district, it was also necessary to provide intensive care medical facilities in Nashik district.

District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told Times of India, "The MUHS has already entered into an agreement with Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre where it would be sending the students admitted for postgraduate courses in its college to take lessons and do practicals till the time the construction is completed. Similarly, it will also require civil hospital for its students and hence these formalities should be completed immediately."
