Bhubaneswar: Taking cognizance of the importance of coming up with great strategies to handle critical care, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar will come up with a new critical care hospital for the immediate treatment of patients with infectious diseases like COVID-19.

The hospital is more likely to get 150 beds, and it will be established under the PM Ayushman Bharat health infrastructure mission (PM-ABHIM). The confirmation of this news has been given by AIIMS Bhubaneswar executive director Ashutosh Biswas on Wednesday.

The estimated cost of the whole project is around Rs. 192 crores. While addressing a press conference, the executive director Ashutosh Biswas stated that this initiative is going to be extremely fruitful for the patients who needs immediate critical care.

The hospital had to undergo a different number of strategies to treat both COVID and non-COVID patients at a single hospital as there were no separate provisions for treating infectious diseases.

The authorities created a separate block designated for COVID patients and they denied other patients from entering the block. It was a temporary solution. The government has finally allocated funds for the establishment of the hospital so that other patients and their attendants do not face any inconvenience due critical care patients, reports Times of India.
The foundation stone for this hospital was laid on the occasion of the 4th annual convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, which was held on January 7. He said Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union minister of state for health Bharati Pravin Pawar will be present during the occasion.
In addition, the Union health minister announced the creation of a one of its kind Burn Center to the public on Saturday during the annual convocation event. The national thermal power corporation (NTPC) built this 36-bed burn centre with six ICU beds and six cabin facilities for a total of Rs 19.87 crore.
Former vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu had laid the foundation stone of this centre on August 25, 2018. " This facility will be very helpful exclusively for burn patients with hyperbaric oxygen chamber, skin bank, physiotherapy, tele conference seminar room with advanced instruments for the treatment of burn patients,” Biswas told TOI.

He further added that their primary focus now is on evidence-based treatments. “This year, we will witness liver transplant, bone marrow transplant and cornea transplant-like facilities in AIIMS Bhubaneswar. It will immensely help people,” he added.

At this national institute, he claimed, kidney transplantation had already begun. Most of those candidates who already qualified the national eligibility-cum entrance test (NEET) have kept AIIMS Bhubaneswar as their second preference this year, right after AIIMS New Delhi, stated Biswas.
At the annual convocation, up to 40 students from the school will earn gold medals. While Subhrajyoti Barik has been chosen as the finest BSc (Hons) nursing graduate, Anil Das will receive the award for best departing MBBS graduate.
