AIIMS Bhubaneswar to host first CIB meeting on January 8
In the meeting, the much-awaited rotation of headship in departments and centres at all AIIMS will be discussed including other significant decisions.
Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar has decided to host the central institute body (CIB) meeting for the first time outside AIIMS, Delhi under the chairmanship of the Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya on January 8.
The CIB is the highest empowered committee of all AIIMS. The members take the meeting with utmost care to discuss various crucial measures regarding the smooth functioning of all the institutes in the presence of the Ministers.
The upcoming CIB meeting is the first meeting to be located outside AIIMS and is set to be hosted by AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
In the meeting, the much-awaited rotation of headship in departments and centres at all AIIMS will be discussed including other significant decisions.
Speaking about the subjects to be discussed in the meeting, an AIIMS official informed TNIE, “Apart from the review on financial, infrastructure and recruitment status of all new AIIMS, several contentious issues and enforcement of policies are expected to be discussed in the CIB meet,”
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi constituting a six-member expert panel to consider the proposal of rotation of headship after every five years in departments and centres.

"The CIB had said there were detailed deliberations on this issue. Some of the members shared their experience with the system of rotatory headship. The chairman expressed that the proposal needs to be examined further for its advantage and disadvantage and smooth functioning of Departments in AIIMS, Delhi, and desired that a new committee may be constituted with people of eminence as members who do not have any conflict of interest in the matter," stated a notice.
It was decided that the committee should approach various government institutions in the medical field as well as other fields where this system has been adopted and seek feedback from these institutions.
Rotation of Headship after every five years is one of the key recommendations of the M S Valiathan committee which was constituted to suggest measures for improving the functioning of AIIMS during the Congress dispensation in 2006-2007.
The issue of rotating headship came to the governing body and institute body of AIIMS on several occasions in the past, but because of its "negative repercussions", it was never implemented, some doctors said.
However, this time the meeting will be attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and MoS for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan, presidents, directors and deputy directors (administration) of 22 AIIMS and CIB members, including some MPs.
About 150 delegates, including the highest authorities of all new AIIMS and senior health professionals, are expected to attend the national meet.
