It is shocking that the government has forgotten Kendrapara which is home to 14.22 lakh people including 3.09 lakh SC and 9481 ST people. He said 68 percent of people of the district depend upon farming and are not economically sound.

Behera said 65 percent of the doctors in government hospitals are lying vacant. There are only 78 doctors against the sanctioned strength of 225. Even the District Headquarter hospital is functioning with 50 percent of the doctors.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for a 100 bedded mother and child care hospital in 2016 and set a deadline for its functioning within two years.

But even after more than four years, nobody is certain when it would start functioning.

Behera requested the chief minister to take steps to set up a medical college and hospital in Kendrapara failing which the Congress will be compelled to resort to agitation and gherao the Collectorate next month.
