2 MBBS students arrested for operating narcotics racket

Jaipur: Busting an illegal drug racket, the Jaipur Crime Branch has arrested two MBBS students from a private medical university on charges of operating a narcotics peddling trade in the city.

According to TOI report, the Cops found that both accused were in their 3rd year of MBBS course at a private university.

The racket was busted based on several tip-offs from sources who informed that the duo had been operating the racket for months in the city. 

According to the police, the pair, in addition to consuming the drugs, also sold them specifically to college students. When the incident gained the attention of the crime branch, a team was created and the duo were arrested based on substantial evidence.

The accused has been identified as a 20-year-old resident of the Mahendragarh district of Haryana and the other is a 21-year-old native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. 

During the raid, the police discovered over 1 kg of charas, and 32 grams of ganja in the possession of the accused following which the items have been seized by the police. 

When interrogating them, the duo alleged that they purchased drugs from a person from Haryana, paying him Rs 1.80 lakh. The drug consignment was then transported to Jaipur using a private bus. Following this, they started targeting college students and sold them drugs at high prices, reports TOI 

When the police asked them about how long the racket was operating, the duo said that they had only recently started selling drugs in the city. It is believed, however, that the accused were operating the drug ring approximately six months before their arrest.

Apart from arresting the duo, the police are suspecting a large-scale racket being involved with the case. An investigation into the case is underway. 

"It is not a simple task for someone to begin receiving substantial drug shipments from another state and distributing them within the city. Our assessment suggests that this network has been in operation for at least the past six months, if not longer," an official said.

A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act as well as the person from whom the drugs were purchased has been booked. "Efforts are also underway to track him down," said an official.
