Rajasthan MBBS Student Dies by Suicide in Kazakhstan Hostel, Medicos appeal to MEA to repatriate body
Rajasthan- In a tragic incident, a fifth-year MBBS student from Rajasthan committed suicide inside his university hostel in Kazakhstan on Tuesday. In response, the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to assist in repatriating his body to his hometown as soon as possible.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Kanishk Saini, a native of the Sikar district in Rajasthan, who was studying at Karaganda Medical University. It is reported that he jumped from one of the upper floors of his hostel building.
According to the TNIE media news report, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of AIMSA, stated that the university administration had informed him that the student was suffering from depression, reportedly due to personal problems.
In this regard, a letter was sent to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Addressing the Minister, the foreign medical student wing of AIMSA stated that the family is completely devastated.
“At this difficult time, the family is facing serious challenges in arranging for the repatriation of his mortal remains to India. In light of the above, we humbly request your kind intervention to facilitate the urgent return of his body so that his last rites may be performed in his homeland with dignity and in accordance with the wishes of his family,” the letter read.
Furthermore, the Association has also appealed to the Ministry to coordinate with the concerned authorities in Kazakhstan to expedite this process on humanitarian grounds.
Meanwhile, Medical Dialogues had reported earlier this year that an Indian Medical student died in a road accident in Kazakhstan, while two others were injured during an excursion trip.
This information was shared by the Indian Embassy on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter). The statement on X said that 11 Indian students from Semey Medical University were involved in an accident while returning from their trip.
