Tamil Nadu: Electronic tablets for MBBS, BDS students
Chennai: Electronic tablets would be given to undergraduate medical/ dental students in Tamil Nadu who are pursuing MBBS/ BDS course in 2021 via the 7.5% government school students' quota by the state government. The announcement was made by the state health minister, Ma Subramaniam on Monday, reports the Times of India.
The announcement was made while he was visiting the Tiruvallur Government Medical College and Hospital in order to welcome the first batch of medical students. It is one of the 11 newly inaugurated colleges in the state.

The minister in his address said, "Chief Minister M K Stalin will soon hand over tablets to students of the 7.5% quota. It will help these students download books and reference materials for their course."
He added that officials associated with the Tamil Nadu health department would be visiting Delhi in order to urge the central government to give permission to begin six more colleges in the state, reports the TOI.
The medical dialogues team had last reported about a similar government initiative by the Sikkim government, who in collaboration with the Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences had made an announcement of providing free medical education to 50 students from villages, who want to study medicine but are unable due to financial constraints. The announcement was made by the Political Secretary to Chief Minister Jacob Khaling in June last year.
The state with a 13.4 percent positivity rate had been striving for improving the facilities required. A significant step for producing more doctors has been undertaken. 'Poor people from villages aspiring to study medical but unable to due to financial constraints will now be able to do so. Sikkim will have 50 additional doctors holding MBBS degrees coming out from Manipal,'' he said while addressing a press conference.
