Tamil Nadu to get Medical Device Parks

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government is setting up a medical devices park and a furniture park in the state, Governor R N Ravi told the State Assembly today.

In his maiden customary New Year address to the newly constituted State Assembly here, he said the medical devices industry has been identified as a sunrise sector.

In order to develop a comprehensive ecosystem for this industry, the Government is establishing a Medical Devices Park at Oragadam spanning 150 acres.

The State will be a pioneer by setting up the first large-scale Furniture Park in the country over an extent of 1,100 acres at Thoothukudi and the Government has announced an attractive package of incentives for the industrial units coming up in this Park.

Mr Ravi said the first phase of the Park will be launched by Chief Minister M K Stalin later this month.

These two parks will generate employment for around three lakh persons, he said.
