NIMS to increase hospital beds to 3000, plans major upgradation

Hyderabad: The number of beds at Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), hospital will soon be increased from 1489 to 3000 as a part of major upgradation planned to enhance the healthcare facilities among others.

The refurbishment of the hospital and its expansion will provide a major boost to the medical fraternity catering to the local population, and is aimed at providing efficient relief during the much dreaded COVID third wave.

This comes in wake of directions given by the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekhar Rao to improve the infrastructure and healthcare facilities offered. In this regard, plans have been devised on a larger scale to implement it and State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar also visited the hospital.

As per a recent media report in The Siasat Daily, it has been decided to increase the number of beds in the hospital from 1489 to 3000. In addition to this, 500 beds will be arranged in trauma care and medical tourism respectively.

Moreover, the hospital authorities has planned to increase the 160 seats in PG courses to 500. In the Broad Specialty 14 divisions, plans have been made to increase the number of seats from 97 to 266 whereas in the Super Specialty divisions, the number of seats have been increased from 63 to 234.

The 16 types of various P.G diploma courses seats have been increased from the present 205 to 300. Furthermore, 54 beds in the trauma care center will be increased to 500.

Moving on, in the Nephrology department, the number of beds will be raised to 200 from 95 while in the Urology department, 100 beds will be available from the present 69.

In this way, bed count is set to increase in every major speciality ward of the hospital. The hospital authorities have also decided to increase 277 beds in the private rooms of the International block to 500.

The Trauma Specialty Millennium Block has been converted into Diagnostics Research Center. Meanwhile, four new blocks will be built which will consist of 2500 beds with integrated facilities, reports The Siasat Daily.
