Kanpur DM orders probe, staff replacement at Patara PHC over alleged treatment lapses

Singh has also set up a three-member inquiry panel headed by the Ghatampur Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The Deputy CMO and ACP Ghatampur have been appointed as members of the committee, reports Times of India. 

The action follows an incident in which a man, along with three of his minor daughters, was killed, while another daughter of his was seriously injured after their house collapsed amid rain in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, and the family alleged that the treatment at the Patara CHC was delayed as no doctor was available when the victims were taken there. They demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged lapses and action against those responsible, reports PTI. 

The inquiry panel has been set up, and it will assess the medical facilities available at the centre, verify the presence of doctors and other staff members who were on duty when the incident occurred, and investigate allegations of negligence in treatment. If negligence is found, strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

The panel will look into the medical infrastructure at the facility, whether doctors and other staff were present on duty at the time of the incident, and the claims of lapses in medical care. If any negligence is proven, stringent action will be initiated against those responsible.

In the meantime, the District Magistrate visited the site of the collapse and met the bereaved family. He later visited the hospital to check on the survivor’s condition and was informed that she is stable.

The DM assured the family that she would receive proper treatment and that the administration would extend all possible support. Singh appealed to residents to stay away from crumbling or damaged structures, inform the local authorities about any unsafe buildings, and remain in a safe location till the weather improves.
