KGMU under scanner over anomalies in recruitment
Lucknow: The Vice-Chancellor of King George's Medical University (KGMU) has been issued a notice by Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta seeking to reply on the alleged anomalies in the recruitment of doctors in the plastic surgery department and purchase of corona testing kits and RT-PCR kits by the medical university.
This comes in wake of complaint moved by social activist, Srikant Singh against the university with the Lokayukta. The complainant alleged that the MCH candidate with the highest degree in plastic surgery was not selected for the post. While MBBS, DNB doctor from a private college in Nepal was appointed.
It was further alleged that KGMU bought corona test kits from the market at a higher rate. The kits were purchased at the rate of Rs 35.40 paise while the UP Medical Supplies Corporation bought these at Rs 8.97 or less. When the matter came to light, officials cancelled the tender on June 8.
Similarly, RT-PCR testing kits were allegedly purchased at the rate of Rs 50.40 while the same kits were purchased at Rs 23 in Gujarat and Rs 28 in Jharkhand.
KGMU was in soup only a week ago, as the Allahabad High Court had come down heavily on the University authorities and served notice to the Vice-Chancellor seeking to know the reason for not holding the polls to elect the members of the University Court (UC) and Executive Council (EC).
This had come after one of the former KGMU executive members had filed a contempt case against the University as the Institute failed to comply with an earlier order of the HC for holding the pending elections for 3 years.
