MA Economics conducts caesarean in UP; Hospital sealed, registration cancelled

UP: In a shocking incident, a quack with a MA economics degree allegedly performed a caesarean twice on a patient at a private hospital in Baraut. The alleged incident has cost the hospital its registration and has been sealed until further notice by the health authorities on account of threatening the life of the patient. The hospital, on the other side, has denied the said allegations and has called the whole incident as a conspiracy.

The Indian Express reports about the case wherein a woman with no proper medical degree or qualification allegedly conducted a cesarean surgery on the patient which led to a decline in her condition and threatened her life. On the basis of the complaint filed by the husband of the patient, the authorities conducted an investigation and sealed the hospital further revoking its registration.

Considering the complaint of the husband, the CMO Dr R K Tandon initiated a thorough investigation headed additional CMO Dr Deepa Singh. After the initial investigation, alleged negligence and inefficiency were found on the part of the hospital after which authorities decided to seal it.

In the complaint, the husband claimed that the patient took admission in the private facility in June for delivery. She had to undergo a cesarean operation twice and the baby was successfully delivered. But right after the surgery, the condition of his wife declined and she had to be rushed to Meerut hospital. She had been referred to PGI Chandigarh afterwards. The doctors allegedly there informed the complainant that the surgery conducted on his wife at the hospital was faulty and it was a blunder, reports the daily. After the best efforts of the doctors there, she was saved after which the husband filed a complaint.

The head of the investigation, Dr Deepa Singh told The Indian Express, "I completed the inquiry and found that the "doctor" who performed the operation was MA in Economics. We did not get any case sheet from the hospital in this regard. This is a serious issue and action has been taken against the hospital."

CMO Dr. Tandon further told the daily that "On finding such anomalies, I requested the local administration to seal the hospital. The registration of the hospital has also been cancelled. We are preparing a charge sheet against the hospital and then we will lodge a criminal FIR against those responsible for the botched up surgery."

The Indian Express reports that the hospital authorities, however, denied all the allegations and stated that there is a conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of the hospital. "This is true that the woman was admitted to our hospital in June and a woman doctor, who is capable of doing the delicate operations, treated her. Her condition deteriorated after the surgery and we referred her to a hospital in Meerut. We did nothing wrong with the patient but the image of the hospital is being sullied by a local lawyer, husband of the pregnant woman, and a staff member of the CMO for their vested interests," claimed Vipin Chauhan, the manager of the private hospital.
