Gorakhpur: In a recent incident of medical admission fraud, an MBBS graduate and his family reportedly lost Rs 26.85 lakh after a man promised them admission to a postgraduate medical course in Mumbai. Police have arrested the accused in connection with the case.

According to the police, the accused allegedly claimed that he could arrange admission to a Diploma course in a reputed medical college in Mumbai through his firm.

However, after the student's father filed a complaint with the police and an FIR was registered, the accused went absconding. Police later arrested him and sent him to jail on Monday.

As per latest Inextlive media report, the fraud took place when the family came across an advertisement about the firm, which claimed to help students secure admission in medical colleges across the country. Trusting the advertisement, the student’s father contacted the accused at the phone number mentioned in it.

During their conversation, he asked them to come to his firm’s office in Mumbai, Maharashtra, along with all the student's academic certificates. The father visited Mumbai with his son and met him. After taking all the educational documents, he demanded Rs 26.85 lakh, assuring them that the student would get admission in a reputed medical college in Mumbai immediately after the payment.

To secure his son’s future, the father transferred Rs 13.85 lakh from his wife’s account and Rs 13 lakh from his own account to the accused’s bank account on September 23, 2022.

A few days later, he allegedly handed over an admission letter in the student’s name, claiming it was issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai.

However, when the family visited the college for admission formalities, they found that the letter was fake and had not been issued by the institution.

Following the complaint, police registered a case against the accused, who is originally from Patna in Bihar and currently lives in Pune, Maharashtra. After remaining on the run, he was arrested by the police and sent to jail on Monday.
