Ballia (UP): The superintendent of a community health centre here has alleged he was assaulted by a BJP MLA, prompting police to launch a probe into the matter.

The superintendent of CHC (Siyar), GP Chowdhury, filed a complaint with the police last night, alleging Belthara Road MLA Dhananjay Kanaujia assaulted him, an official said.

Kanuajia, however, said the superintendent made a false allegation to "hide his misdeeds".

"I was on a surprise inspection at the CHC and found anomalies there," he said.

SP Anil Kumar said, "A probe has been ordered in the matter."

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Anant Kumar Hegde, MP from Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency who assaulted the doctor, had been given a place in the Modi Government Cabinet, as a Skill Development Minister ( MOS).

The medical fraternity opposed the government's move and demanded the immediate removal of Anant Kumar.
