AMRI Hospital Mukundapur, Kolkata introduces Laser Therapy for Post-Menopausal Women
Kolkata: Women’s genitalia tends to undergo a series of changes due to ageing, childbearing, obesity and hormonal imbalances. Leading to issues such as vaginal laxity, stress urinary incontinence, loss of vaginal lubrication, a decrease in erotic sensation, and loss of tone of the labia major, these changes can impact their quality of life to a great extent.
In the wake of the increasing number of such cases, AMRI Hospitals, the largest network of tertiary care hospitals in Eastern India, has introduced vaginal rejuvenation therapy at its unit at Mukundapur, Kolkata. It offers laser treatment for post-menopausal women. It is considered to be a more conservative treatment when compared to surgery. The major advantage for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure is that it is an OPD Procedure, there is no pain & can be done during the lunch break for working women.
An umbrella term for all vaginal corrective treatments —Vaginal Rejuvenation is done for both cosmetic reasons and to solve age-related problems. The laser treatment is also suitable for premenopausal women, including the ones of childbearing age.
A successful laser treatment is likely to result in around 80% improvement in vaginal dryness, say gynaecologists at AMRI Hospital Mukundapur. It also leads to 60%-70% improvement in urinary symptoms, such as urgency, frequency, and stress incontinence.
Studies show that a majority of post-menopausal women experience common symptoms, ranging from vaginal dryness and atrophy to mild urinary incontinence and painful intercourse. These symptoms are collectively termed as Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).
The devices developed for treating these issues make use of radiofrequency or laser energy. Fillers are also used at times for injecting in the clitoris. The procedures of Vaginal Rejuvenation therapy are varied and totally depend on individual needs of the patient. They experience a major improvement, once the treatment is successful.
