AMRI Hospital vandalised over alleged medical negligence, 5 detained
Kolkata: A private hospital in south Kolkata was vandalized and doctors were attacked by kin of a patient alleging medical negligence leading to her death, police said.
Five persons were detained in connection with the attack on the hospital late Tuesday night, the police said. The hospital authorities lodged a complaint with the Lake police station and family members of the deceased also lodged a complaint against the hospital alleging medical negligence and inflated bill, an officer of Lake police station said.
"We are looking into the matter and investigation is on. We are speaking to the hospital authorities and looking into the complaints of the affected family," he said.
Denying any medical negligence, the hospital authorities said in a press statement, that the 16-year-old girl had severe dengue with macrophage activation syndrome with multi-organ failure and had to be put on ventilation and required dialysis.
Her family members had been intimated of her critical condition on a regular basis as per the hospital norms, the statement said.
The patient died last night due to macrophage activation syndrome with multi-organ failure from dengue fever, it said.
