First: Govt to conduct Pan India AYUSH survey, check details
New Delhi: To get a better understanding of how AYUSH(Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy) affects the Indian population, the government announced on Tuesday that they are all set to conduct an AYUSH survey. This is the first time that the Indian government is going to conduct such a survey.
The National Statistical Office and the State Directorates of Economics and Statistics will conduct the survey together for one year. Besides the villages in Andaman and Nicobar Islands that have poor accessibility, the survey will cover the whole Indian Union.
The survey will be executed in such a manner that the data would be collected from about 3 lakh households in 12,000 villages/urban blocks, with nearly the same number in the state sample.
In a statement, the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation told ET that "the survey on AYUSH will be a first-ever all-India survey on AYUSH and will gather information for the development of various key parameters on AYUSH. An attempt was made in the survey of Household Consumer Expenditure, NSS 68th round, 2011-12 to get some estimates on awareness and uses of the AYUSH system of medicine by the household"
The survey of Household Social Consumption: Health, NSS 75th round, 2017-18, collected data on AYUSH medicines used by patients for in-patient and out-patient treatments, as well as by pregnant women for pre-natal and post-natal care. As per the previous survey of 2017-18, "no dedicated and comprehensive nationwide survey on AYUSH sector has been conducted in any NSS household surveys till date."
The NSS 79th Round of Socio-Economic Survey includes two subjects: the AYUSH Survey and the Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS).
The CAMS, 2021 is designed to collect data needed to construct some key socioeconomic indicators, which have seen a major increase in demand in recent years.
While the survey on AYUSH will be the first-ever all-India survey which will gather information for the development of various key parameters on AYUSH, CAMS will cater to the emerging need for information on high-frequency socio-economic indicators that are not available from any other source, such as administrative data, as well as provide the information required for monitoring the performances of SDG indicators.
