Bageshwar District Hospital launches Kshar Sutra therapy in AYUSH wing

Bageshwar: The district hospital in Bageshwar has expanded its healthcare services with the introduction of Kshar Sutra therapy in its AYUSH wing, providing relief to patients suffering from anorectal disorders. With this facility, patients seeking Ayurvedic treatment for conditions such as piles, fistula, and fissures will no longer need to travel long distances for care.
Kshar Sutra therapy is a traditional Ayurvedic para-surgical procedure used to manage conditions like fistula, piles, anal cuts, and infections near the tailbone area. The treatment involves placing a specially prepared medicated thread, coated with herbal substances, into the affected area. The thread works gradually by cutting unhealthy tissue, draining infection, and promoting natural healing at the same time, making it particularly effective for long-standing or chronic cases.
A key advantage of the therapy is that it is minimally invasive and does not require major surgery. It is usually performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return to their normal routine quickly. The medicated thread is changed at regular intervals, ensuring continuous healing. The treatment is known for its low recurrence rate, minimal complications, and its ability to preserve surrounding healthy tissues, making it a preferred alternative to conventional surgical methods.

The facility for Kshar Sutra therapy has now been established in the AYUSH operation theatre (OT) set up at the trauma center of the district hospital. To ensure proper and accessible care, both a male and a female surgeon have been appointed to carry out the procedures. Officials have confirmed that the service is already functional, and at least one successful operation has been performed since the OT became operational, reports Amar Ujala.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest among people in Ayurvedic and natural forms of treatment. Reflecting this trend, the district currently has a network of 35 AYUSH healthcare centres spread across urban and rural areas. These include the AYUSH wing at the district hospital, 11 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and 23 government Ayurvedic hospitals.
Earlier, this treatment was available only at a wellness center in Majiyakhait, which made access difficult for many patients. With the service now available at the district hospital, more people can receive treatment easily without travelling long distances. District Ayurvedic Officer Dr. Nisha Kohli stated that specialists Dr. Hema Goswami and Dr. Sudhir Agri have been deployed, and the facility is expected to benefit a larger number of patients in the coming days.
