Rs 10 crore AYUSH Hospital in Kullu awaits completion after 2023 flood damage

Ayush Hospital Awaits Completion
Kullu: A multi-speciality AYUSH hospital project at Bajoura in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district has been facing prolonged delays despite an investment of over Rs 10 crore, affecting plans to expand advanced Ayurveda-based healthcare services in the region.
The Bajoura Multi Speciality Ayush Hospital was initiated with the aim of providing modern Ayush healthcare facilities to residents of Kullu and neighbouring areas, including Mandi, Lahaul and Pangi. However, the project has remained stalled for nearly three years, with no significant construction activity reported after the damage caused during the 2023 monsoon disaster, reports Amar Ujala.
The hospital structure was affected during the Beas River floods on July 9 and 10, 2023. The strong water current reportedly damaged the structure and caused one side of the building to tilt. Since then, construction has remained incomplete, and the facility has not been made operational.
The hospital project involves an estimated expenditure of around Rs 10.35 crore. Once completed, it is planned to offer 50 beds along with multi-speciality Ayush services, including Panchakarma treatment facilities based on the Kerala model. The foundation stone of the Ayurveda hospital was laid in 2018 by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur.

The hospital was again affected by rising Beas river waters in 2025, adding to the delays in completion. The prolonged wait has raised concerns among local residents, who have been demanding early completion of the facility.
They said the hospital’s completion would significantly improve healthcare access in the region. A proposal for developing a herbal garden within the hospital premises was also part of the planned facilities.
Former Brigadier and BJP leader Shri Khushal Thakur said the stalled construction reflected administrative failure and urged the government to complete the remaining work at the earliest. Similarly, BJYM state secretary Ruchin Chauhan stated that people were waiting for the facility and were facing difficulties due to the delay.
Residents and stakeholders have urged the government and the AYUSH Department to take immediate steps to restart the project and make the hospital functional for public healthcare services.
