Udupi to host international conference on Translational Ayurveda in Autoimmune Disorders
The sixth International Conference on Translational Ayurveda in Autoimmune Disorders, 'Kshamatvam 2026', will be held in Udupi from September 29 to October 1, bringing experts together to discuss Ayurveda, immunity, chronic inflammation and evidence-based approaches to autoimmune disorders.
Udupi: The sixth International Conference on Translational Ayurveda in Autoimmune Disorders, ‘Kshamatvam 2026’, is set to bring together Ayurveda scholars, clinicians and biomedical researchers at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda, Hospital and Research Centre (SDMAHRC), Udupi, from September 29 to October 1, 2026.
The conference will examine Ayurvedic concepts and therapies in the context of autoimmune disorders through contemporary scientific approaches.
The event will begin with pre-conference workshops on September 29, followed by two days of scientific deliberations. Discussions will centre on conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease and psoriasis, which are being diagnosed with increasing frequency worldwide.
The conference comes amid growing interest in understanding immune dysregulation and chronic inflammation and exploring approaches that may complement existing treatment strategies. According to SDMAHRC principal Mamatha K.V., although advances in immunology have improved treatment options, many patients continue to require long-term care, prompting interest in approaches focused on prevention, immune regulation and quality of life, reports The Hindu.
A key theme of the conference will be “translational Ayurveda”, which aims to study traditional Ayurvedic principles using modern research methodologies. The discussions will examine concepts including vyadhikṣamatva, ojas, bala, agni, prakṛti and rasayana therapies alongside current scientific understanding of immunity and autoimmunity.
The scientific programme will cover several areas, including integrative medicine, Panchakarma, medicinal plant research, herbo-mineral formulations, lifestyle interventions and evidence-based Ayurvedic practice. Keynote lectures, invited talks, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations, workshops, and research and trade exhibitions are also scheduled.
According to The Daily, International speakers expected at the conference include Christian Kessler from Germany, Antonio Morandi from Italy and Jorge Luis Berra from Argentina. Indian experts scheduled to participate include Bhushan Patwardhan, Sanjeev Rastogi and Rammanohar Puthiyedath.
The organisers expect between 1,500 and 2,000 delegates from clinical, research, academic, policy and healthcare backgrounds. The conference is expected to provide a platform for interdisciplinary discussions on the scientific evaluation of Ayurveda and its potential role in autoimmune healthcare.
Dr Mamatha said the meeting would seek to strengthen research and the evidence base for integrating Ayurveda with mainstream healthcare, where supported by scientific validation.
