Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has always been an ardent advocate of Ayurveda and has continuously stressed on its effectiveness and importance. For its better accessibility, and to improve the lifestyle and the health of the people in the state, his government has also taken various measures.
The promotion of Ayurveda would increase medical tourism, and employment while medicinal farming would also get a boost and exports would strengthen the economy. Treatment through Ayurveda will not only help in improving the health of the crores of the people of the state but also of neighbouring places like northern Bihar and Nepal.
Gorakhpur has a rich tradition of Ayurveda and Yoga. Mahant Digvijay Nath Ayurveda Chikitsalaya was established on the premises of Gorakhnath Temple long before the establishment of Guru Shri Gorakshnath Institute of Medical Sciences.
According to the Registrar of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Dr Pradeep Rao, Ayurvedic medicines will also be manufactured on the university campus. For this, recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has also been signed with Vaidyanath Private Limited and many educational institutions.
In order to get quality raw material for these medicines, a model Ayush Vatika will be built on five-five acres at the temple farm at Chowk (Maharajganj) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Pipiganj. Thereafter, farmers will also be linked to this.
Aiming to transform UP into a medical tourism hub in India, the Yogi Adityanath government has also proposed a purse of Rs 113.52 crore in the budget for establishing AYUSH University in Gorakhpur.
Believing that Ayurveda can play a crucial role in establishing UP as a medical tourism destination, the state's first AYUSH University named after Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath is under construction on a 52-acre area at a cost of about Rs 268 crore. The foundation stone of the university was laid by President Ram Nath Kovind on August 28, 2021.
Besides, a government Ayurvedic college is also being set up in Ayodhya under AYUSH Mission Scheme. Under this scheme, 50 bed integrated AYUSH hospitals are being established in Unnao, Shravasti, Hardoi, Sambhal, Gorakhpur and Mirzapur.
