UP Govt to roll out Ayush Health and Wellness Policy 2026

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to implement the "Ayush Health and Wellness Policy-2026" to strengthen traditional healthcare services and position the state as a major wellness and healing destination.
Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath reviewed the functioning of the Ayush Department and instructed officials to promote better coordination between traditional systems such as Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy with modern healthcare facilities and wellness tourism. He said the state should focus on developing a comprehensive wellness ecosystem that strengthens healthcare services while promoting investment, employment and research in the Ayush sector, reports the Times of India.
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy, the Chief Minister said cities including Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura have strong potential to develop into key destinations for wellness and healing tourism centred around traditional Indian medicine systems.
Officials informed that the state currently has 3,953 Ayush healthcare units, 1,034 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 225 yoga wellness centres and 19 Ayush medical colleges. The government is planning to expand these facilities in phases through public-private partnership models. The proposed initiatives include the establishment of modern wellness centres, integrated 100-bed treatment and training institutes, and the upgrading of existing Ayush medical colleges, reports ABP Live.
The proposed Ayush Health and Wellness Policy-2026 aims to establish integrated centres of excellence, wellness and treatment hubs, digital healthcare facilities, and specialised institutions focused on training, research and innovation. To encourage private sector participation, the policy includes provisions such as investment subsidies, operational incentives, interest subsidies, stamp duty concessions and employment-linked benefits.
The Chief Minister directed officials to accelerate the establishment of integrated Ayush colleges in Mirzapur, Gonda, Meerut, Agra and Basti. He also instructed the department to strengthen OPD services, ensure adequate availability of medicines and promote traditional therapies, including Panchakarma, across Ayush institutions in the state.
The meeting also reviewed research and innovation activities at Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the appointment of permanent faculty members and develop the university as a premier centre for Ayush education, research and traditional medical systems.
