From Parks to Wellness Hubs: AYUSH Ministry launches yoga park portal

Yoga Park Portal
Khajuraho: In a move to promote yoga-based wellness at the community level, the Ministry of AYUSH has launched the Yoga Park Portal, a national digital platform to support the development of existing public parks into dedicated spaces for yoga, meditation and preventive healthcare activities.
The portal was inaugurated by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, during the 25-day countdown event for International Day of Yoga 2026 held in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The revamped Yoga Sangam Portal was also launched on the occasion.
The initiative focuses on using public parks not just as recreational areas, but as regular community spaces for health and well-being. Under the programme, selected parks across the country can be developed to include yoga platforms, meditation areas, open spaces for group sessions, green zones, and awareness areas.
The portal will allow various stakeholders, including Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, yoga institutions, corporate organisations, and community groups, to register and participate in the identification, development, and maintenance of Yoga Parks.

According to the Ministry, the initiative has been designed to create long-term community wellness assets and encourage citizens to include yoga and healthy living practices in their daily routine. The programme is expected to benefit people across age groups, including children, working professionals and senior citizens.
A major focus of the initiative is collaboration at the local level. While local bodies and community organisations may help identify and maintain suitable parks, yoga institutions can support the initiative by conducting regular yoga sessions and awareness activities. The programme also provides scope for corporate participation through Corporate Social Responsibility, allowing companies to support wellness infrastructure in communities, according to DD India.
The Yoga Park Portal will provide access to guidelines, concept notes, registration details and other resources for interested organisations. Through a single digital platform, the Ministry aims to make participation easier and create a more coordinated approach towards yoga promotion and preventive healthcare.
The initiative also aligns with the International Day of Yoga 2026 theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” With lifestyle-related diseases, stress and age-related health issues becoming growing concerns, the Ministry’s effort seeks to make wellness practices more accessible through public spaces.
With this initiative, the Ministry of AYUSH aims to take yoga beyond annual events and encourage its practice as part of everyday community life.
