Police Superintendent (City) Chandan Kumar Kushwaha had reached the spot to pacify the mob and lift the road blockade.A massive manhunt is on to nab culprits. TOI reports that police has arrested one cuplrit in this regard, a man who has been identified as Shambhu. According to the police, the reason for the murder has been identified as a personal enmity/property dispute.
This is the second death of a medical practitioner reported in a month. On 14th august, Dr S B Singh was found dead evening after being shot in the jaw from point blank range. His family and doctors claimed that he was murdered by criminals who had threatened him sometime back. The doctors are, among other things, demanding a CBI inquiry into his killing and payment of Rs 25 lakh ex gratia to his family. Local IMA had also launched a day long strike, in this regard.
Medical dialogues team had earlier reported, how medical practitioners in the state of Bihar had become the soft targets of Extortion and Practice of Rangdari . Crime against medical practitioners has increased substantially in the state . "Extortion calls, murder attempts and assaults have terrorised doctors in the state. We have made several pleas to the state DGP to ensure our safety, but to no avail," an IMA office-bearer told TOI.
With the murder of Dr Afzal Ali, infuriated medical practitioners are threatening another bandh, this time probably nation -wide to point out to the government the importance of security of doctors.
